Elementary > Character Counts
Character Counts is an ethics-based program for kids, with the
foundation being 6 pillar or core character words: trustworthiness, respect,
responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. These six core ethical values
form the foundation of the CHARACTER COUNTS! youth-ethics initiative.
With each participating class, business partners bring to life these
character words and how they relate to home, school and the workplace. The
purpose is to help those schools who do not have character programs introduce
these concepts in an effort to improve student performance, inter-personal
skills and long-term soft skills and overall work ethic.
It is the goal of the clusters to have character education in every
grade for K-12 in every school in Vermilion County. The clusters pay for the
kits for the schools and provide volunteers from business to demonstrate the 6
pillar words of character.
